Lab-Grown Diamonds and IGI Certification

Julea’s diamonds are lab-grown with IGI certification. A grading report identifies the diamond and records its characteristics. Your personal quote confirms the selected diamonds, their report details and which stones the documentation covers.

What is a lab-grown diamond?

A lab-grown diamond is a diamond created in a controlled laboratory environment. GIA describes laboratory-grown and natural diamonds as having essentially the same chemical, physical and optical properties. Their origins differ, and specialist examination can identify that difference. GIA explains the distinction.

Julea offers lab-grown diamonds with IGI certification. We do not sell natural diamonds. The comparison below explains the terminology you may encounter while researching a ring.

Diamond origin at a glance
QuestionLab-grown diamondNatural diamond
Where does it form?In a laboratoryIn the Earth
Is it a diamond?YesYes
How is origin checked?Specialist identification and documentationSpecialist identification and documentation
Does Julea offer it?Yes, with IGI certificationNo

A photograph or a basic diamond tester is not sufficient evidence of origin. GIA explains why separating natural and lab-grown diamonds requires appropriate specialist equipment. Ask for the documentation of the diamond being offered. Read GIA's identification explanation.

What does an IGI report show?

IGI's report-reading guide describes the diamond's identity, shape, cutting style, measurements and assessment of the 4Cs: carat weight, colour, clarity and cut. Use those details together when discussing a stone. See IGI's explanation of report fields.

Questions to ask when reading your report
DetailWhat to confirm
Identity and originDoes the description identify a laboratory-grown diamond?
Carat weight and measurementsWhich weight and dimensions belong to this particular stone?
Shape and cutting styleAre you comparing the same shape and style of cut?
Colour and clarityWhich grades are recorded, and how do they fit your preferences?
Cut and finishWhich assessments are included on this report?
CommentsAre there further observations you would like explained?

Keep the report with your quotation. If two proposed stones differ, ask which specification has changed and what that means for the finished design. “Same carat” is not a complete comparison.

How can I verify my IGI report?

  1. Ask for the report number and a readable copy of the report for your selected diamond.
  2. Open IGI's own report verification page and enter that number.
  3. Compare the returned details with the report and your quotation. Ask us to explain any mismatch before proceeding.

If your diamond has a report-number inscription, ask how it will be matched under magnification. An online lookup alone does not match the physical stone. IGI explains inscriptions.

We confirm the report details for the stones selected for your order. The catalogue's design image does not identify a particular report number.

Which diamonds does the report cover?

For a solitaire, begin with the main diamond. For a pavé band, a three-stone ring or a pair of earrings, also ask which diamonds the documentation covers. A report number for one diamond does not, by itself, describe every diamond in a piece.

IGI offers reports for loose diamonds and finished jewellery. A mounted-jewellery report has its own scope, and the setting can limit the assessments possible. Confirm the type of report you are receiving. IGI describes its reporting services.

Julea's diamonds are lab-grown with IGI certification. Your quote confirms the report details and the diamonds covered. For a multi-stone design such as Cecilia, make that discussion part of the stone selection.

How should I compare complete-ring quotes?

Put the diamond and the setting in the same comparison. Ask each jeweller to identify the selected stone, its documentation, the metal and alloy, the design, the size and the services included. A loose-diamond amount and a finished-ring quote describe different purchases.

For a solitaire such as Arabella, start with the main diamond and the setting details. For a multi-stone design, request the main-stone weights and the total diamond weight separately where applicable.

Julea's catalogue starting prices and shown weights are illustrative. The pictured size may cost more. Your personal quote confirms the selected configuration and final price. No fixed percentage saving is assumed in this guide.

What about environmental claims and resale?

Lab-grown origin alone does not establish a particular environmental footprint. Ask what evidence supports an environmental claim and which activities it covers. The ACCC advises businesses to make accurate claims supported by reasonable grounds and to include material qualifications. Read the ACCC's guidance.

A grading report is not a valuation: IGI distinguishes its diamond documentation from an appraisal. See IGI's report FAQs. Choose a ring around your intended use and budget; this guide offers no guaranteed resale return.

What should I confirm before ordering?

  • The selected lab-grown diamonds and their agreed specifications.
  • The IGI report details and the diamonds covered.
  • Main-stone weight versus total diamond weight, where applicable.
  • The metal, setting, finish and size.
  • The complete price, what it includes, payment terms and estimated timing.

Bring these questions to a bespoke consultation. We can work through the design and prepare your personal quote.
